A Grace Place is a center specializing in the care of adults with physical or intellectual disabilities. I love visiting. No matter how down you may be when you walk in the door, the enthusiasm, joy and zest for life of the members will always rub off on you. One time I was caught into a waltz by a young man with down syndrome– we had never met, but somehow that didn't bother either one of us. It was these little "moments of grace" that i try to communicate when creating a piece of work. I've just posted an AGP Case Study detailing the process and work we've created for A Grace Place. Don't miss the photography by Joshua Carpenter, our illustrious photographer. It's really quite beautiful. We couldn't communicate CELEBRATE LIFE without it!

Hello and welcome to the new and improved Kate Carpenter Design website. This site has been in my head for quite a while but I've been putting off building it. I laughingly tell people "the shoemaker's children go barefoot," and it's the truth– my fabulous clients' work always take priority. And it's important work, too– fundraising for Massey Cancer Center and A Grace Place Adult Care center (and all my other nonprofits, LOVE THEM)– so much good these organizations do for the community. They deserve my complete attention. So after years of making client work my passion, I've amassed a pretty powerful collection of work. Carving out a little bit of extra time, usually late at night, I'm hunkering down to get it done. Yep, I know. It's a long time coming.
A note on "we": I know you all are pretty much aware that Kate Carpenter Design is a small organization, and most of the time I am doing all the work. I serve as account manager, creative director, secretary, and (ahem) president and CEO. This is a good thing. (Did you ever play "telephone" in kindergarten? Isn't it amazing how your words get turned around as they go down the line? That doesn't happen here. When you call, I'm the one who answers. Nothing lost in translation from the account manager.) Yet, all through the site, I say "we"? What's that all about? Well, even though there is mostly a "me" there is also a "we."
We have a fantastic photographer (Joshua Carpenter, former president of the American Society of Media Photographers, and my husband) who does nearly all our photographic work– and he also serves as visual strategy advisor. We bounce ideas off each other for every project and I rely greatly on his opinion and ideas. (And yes. It is hard working with your husband. We both have powerful opinions and different styles and sometimes it these discussions can get, well, you know. But I'll tell you the truth: the counterpoint makes every project better.) We also have several outstanding developers, writers and illustrators who I am privileged to consider part of the KCD team.
Here's the thing: if there is something you need done and i don't have the capabilities to do it myself, you can bet I know someone to make it happen. That's what a team is all about. I'd rather be REALLY good at what I do, and count on others who are really good at what they do. So that's what "we" is all about.
So, that's all for now. Thanks for coming along to the adventure with us.
